People often ask me how a German Executive working for German firms inn the US—with a Master’s in Engineering and a Bachelor’s in Business Development—ended up creating and running a tree service company. It’s a fair question. The answer comes down to two things: the raw satisfaction of a man with a chainsaw, and a father’s vision for his autistic son’s future.
Our "Storm-Born" Beginning
The spark for creating a tree service business didn't come from a boardroom; it came from a tornado. When our community was hit by a devastating storms, I received a call from a close friend whose property was badly hit by the storm. Several trees were uprooted or broke. The property looked like a ware zone. He had been quoted $35,000 for the cleanup—a staggering amount for a family in crisis.
I took a few days off, grabbed my climbing gear and my chain saws, and got to work. One property led to another, and soon I was helping neighbors whose homes and properties were impacted by the storm as well. Seeing the immediate impact of that work—the relief on a homeowner's face when a dangerous tree is finally cleared—was more rewarding than any corporate milestone I’d ever achieved.
Building a Legacy for our son
The real "why" behind this company is our beautiful son. Our son is on the autism spectrum and was non-verbal until the age of 5. He is a beautiful, brilliant boy who navigates the world differently. He loves his friends deeply and works harder than anyone I know to overcome the challenges he faces. For years, my wife dedicated her life to his development, thus enabling me to travel for business and build my career as an executive. However, when she began facing her own health challenges, the "corporate climb" no longer made sense. I needed to be present for our family.
Like many boys his age, his career aspirations have been... colorful. When his friend announced he wanted to be a pro basketball player, our son didn't miss a beat: "I want to be a bank robber!" After realizing we might need to monitor his Roblox gaming intake, we had to find a middle ground.
Our son is one the autism spectrum and was non-verbal until the age of 5. He is a beautiful, brilliant boy who navigates the world differently. He loves his friends deeply and works harder than anyone I know to overcome the challenges he faces. As a father, my mission is to build a business that provides him with a head start—a place where he can eventually contribute, lead, and find his own path in a way that suits his unique strengths.
